Redwood Empire Council BSA Organization and Leadership

Each BSA Council is chartered by the Boy Scouts of America to serve youth and families in a defined geographical territory.  The council governing body is made up of approximately 80 adult community volunteers, the majority of Council Members being Chartered Organization Representatives representing organizations with BSA units, assisted by community Council Members-at-Large elected annually.

Council Members meet annually to review the previous year's accomplishments, conduct any business requiring full corporate member approval, and elect members of the Council Executive Board.  Special council meetings may also be called if necessary.

The Council Executive Board consists of at least 25 adult members, including council volunteer officers, who give leadership to all aspects of council operation between annual meetings, and meet at least quarterly.  Most Scouting work is shared by volunteers among the commissioner staff and various council and district committees, with support from a small but dedicated council staff.

Volunteer officers include the council president, council commissioner, several council vice presidents, and council treasurer.  Day-to-day operations of the council are handled by the council Scout executive, who also serves as council corporate secretary and supervisor of council employees.
