Happy 100th Birthday Redwood Empire Council!!!
Did you know that July 26th, 1919 was the official date of the founding of the Redwood Empire Council? Yes, the Petaluma Council, which became the Sonoma Mendocino Area Council and ultimately, the present day Redwood Empire Council has now continuously operated for 100 years. Plan now to join us for a formal recognition ceremony on Wednesday, September 25th in Petaluma at Walnut Park to celebrate this accomplishment. The oldest known BSA troops in Petaluma existed by 1917. How fortunate for us that the city fathers of the Petaluma Area came together to create the Petaluma Council which was first chartered by the National Council BSA on July 26, 1919. By the end of its first year the council was serving the communities of Petaluma, Cotati, Sonoma, and Glen Ellen. The council was renamed the Petaluma Area Council (#41) and continued as such until 1944. The Sonoma Mendocino Area Council served our area until 1992 when the present Redwood Empire Council came into being. Scouting and the Redwood Empire Council have seen many adventures and changes during the first 100 years. Currently we serve almost 2,000 youth and their families. We look forward to working with our Communities and Scouts to ensure that the greatest movement the world has ever seen, continues our mission of citizenship, service and leadership for all our youth during the next 100 years.
