Special Message from REC-BSA Key 3 to all families in our council

Redwood Empire Council BSA is doing everything it can to keep up-to-date with rapidly changing information and safety recommendations concerning the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic. We recommend reviewing local government Emergency Management websites https://socoemergency.org/External Link and  https://www.mendocinocounty.org/community/novel-coronavirusExternal Link for specific information on current conditions for our local communities.

Locally, our Council Risk Management Committee has decided that all in-person council and district activities be postponed until after May 3 (subject to review and update as our regional situation continues) and the Council Key Three and Council Officers agree with their recommendations.  Council/district meetings may continue as videoconferences during this period.

Many of our BSA units are also holding videoconference meetings, for which we applaud. To assist you and your BSA families, we have added a special page of resource links to our website http://www.redwoodbsa.org/Advancement/News/BSAScoutingatHomeExternal Link which includes specific links to BSA resources for Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Venturers, and Sea Scouts.  Our webpage with the temporary revisions to BSA Advancement policies is http://www.redwoodbsa.org/Advancement/External Link

Our council/district Merit Badge Counselors are working with our council staff to create videoconference Merit Badge Workshops which allow Scouts to meet with counselors online, following established Youth Protection Training requirements.  Encourage your troop Scouts to participate - online signup links for each Workshop are on the website calendar http://www.redwoodbsa.org/CalendarExternal Link

A special list of additional program resources called "Scouting Remotely" was sent out through Scoutbook on March 28 to all 860 Scoutbook users in our council. This document, updated and condensed, was mailed to all REC-BSA families on April 9.

Thank you everyone for continuing to participate in Scouting as BSA youth and adult members, and for showing how we can continue living up to the 12 Points of our Scout Law in our Scouting activities and as members of our communities.

Ray Leonard, Council President

Keith Schoenthal, Council Commissioner

Charlie Howard-Gibbon, Council Scout Executive
