The “Orca Spouts” is the newsletter of Orca Lodge.  It is published quarterly each year.  It was recognized at NOAC 2002 with National Honor Award.

With the dawning of the Internet age, Orca Lodge was one of the first in the nation to go online with a website in 1994 (www.orca194.org).  It was recognized at NOAC 2002 with National Honor Award.  Currently www.orca194.org is undergoing a redesign.  Current information on Orca Lodge is at www.redwoodbsa.org/OA

Orca Lodge has a Facebook members Group “Orca Lodge #194”

In 2016, the Orca Lodge "Where to go Camping Guide" was converted to web pages and posted on the Council Website.

BSA expanded the Outdoors Ethics program and asked Councils to provide increased emphasis in this area as too many scout units were not practicing sound environmental stewardship.  Orca Lodge recognized that one of the purposes of the Order of the Arrow was to: “Promote camping, responsible outdoor adventure, and environmental stewardship as essential components of every Scout’s experience, in the unit, year-round, and in summer camp. “  In addition, one of the primary elements of the Messengers of Peace program is:  “Relationships between humankind and its environment”. Orca Lodge decided to become Messengers of peace by providing Outdoor Ethics Awareness to the units of the redwood Empire Council.

Orca Lodge conducted both a leave No Trace and a Tread Lightly Trainer course for its members.  The courses usually cost $50.00 a person to cover materials, campsite, and administration fees.  These costs were donated saving the Lodge over $500.00.  Once the Lodge members were trained they signed up for all of the scheduled Council activities that included; Cub Scout Twilight camp, Webelos Woods, District Camporee, University of Scouting, Advance Camp, Hornaday weekend. Orca Lodge volunteered to conduct the Outdoor Ethics training at the Order of the Arrow Section Conclave.  In addition, they members went to a number of individual Pack and Troop meetings.

This program was recognized with an OA Innovation Award.
