Order of the Arrow Unit Elections 2017

The Order of the Arrow is the honor society of the Boy Scouts of America. It recognizes those campers who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives and, by such recognition, cause other scouts to conduct themselves in such a manner as to warrant similar recognition, to promote camping, and to crystallize the habit of helpfulness as a life purpose.

Each Boy Scout troop with qualified Scouts is urged to request an election not later than March 25, to select candidates for an Indution to be held this spring and fall. The date and place of the election is selected by you as unit leader. 

Boy Scout Qualifications

1. A Boy Scout who holds the First Class rank and is under age of 21 and is registered as an active member of his troop may, with the approval of his unit leader, be nominated for election.
2. To be eligible, a Boy Scout must have completed at least 15 days and nights of Boy Scout camping under the auspices of the Boy Scouts of America during the 2 year period prior to the election. The 15 days and nights must include one long term camp (six consecutive days and five nights). The balance of the camping must be overnight, weekend, or other short term camps.The registered Scout must hold at least First Class rank.

If your Troop elects at least one youth, the Committee may nominate one adult member (age 21 and over) for every 3 youth that were elected, to Orca Lodge for review.

1. Selection of the adult is based upon ability to perform the requisite functions (and not as an honor or recognition of service) including current or prior achievement and position.
2. This adult will be an asset to the Order due to demonstrated skills and abilities, which fulfill the purpose of the Order.
3. The camping requirements that apply for youth candidates apply to adult candidates and must have been fulfilled within the most recent two years prior to recommendation for membership. The requirement is a minimum of fifteen days and nights of camping under the auspices and standards of the Boy Scouts of America, including six consecutive days and five nights of long term camping.
4. This adult leader will provide a positive role model for the growth and development of the youth members of the Lodge.

After being elected or approved the candidates must attend one of two Induction weekends within the course of the year to gain membership status. Our first Induction is in May, and the second Induction is scheduled for October.
