January 2020 Pomo District Committee Meeting Minutes

18:15 Pledge of Allegiance

Charles Howard-Gibbon:  Charter Renewals are being held up due to proper Background Checks not signed. It will affect advancements etc. not officially reported for two months. After two months the unit will need to re apply for charter. Packs affected: P21, P55G, P27, P138, P333, and P25. There is a specific Background Check consent specific for California and cannot be obtained online. 
-  JTE forms due. The District is currently at Bronze.
-  FOS - recognitions are in.  Presentations can now be done. Hard copy forms are in. Units should have a coordinator to facilitate.
-  FOS Breakfast February 28 at 8:00 in Rohnert Park. Table Captains are needed. Units get credit by filling tables.
-  The Budget is balanced. Jack France had worked hard to get it there. Council is currently looking for new location due to increased costs. Aiming to be out by April.
- The National Scout Store is leaving at the end of January. Council will pick up about $24,000 worth of inventory from them which will be kept at the Scout Office as a Trading Post. Mostly uniforms, badges, books will be available at the Trading Post. The rest of the inventory will return to National. Mo will be working part time there and part time in the Office.
-  National will be filing Chapter 11 and create a Trust fund for victims of abuse and will be going before a judge to sort things out. Councils will not be filing, just National as a separate entity.
-  Unit Commissioners need to complete six simple assessments plus one detailed assessment each year. Simple assessments include any meaningful contact with a unit regarding its condition.
-  Key 3 Meeting will be held at the Doyle Park location. The Doyle Park location is available for scout use for free but reservations must be made.
-  Nomination of POMO District Committee will be held next month on 25th of February.

Communications - Katie Dougherty   Need to get articles in by Friday.   Website will be updated with camping information.   Facebook different unit pages to include fundraisers.

Training - Peggy Bimbi   University of Scouting went very well. Yulupa location might be available for next year.  Mathias Toupin will look into it.

Membership - Sherry Kearney   Membership drives should be ongoing throughout the year. Geofencing still not effective. There is still a need for public exposure including at school events.
- 9 Feb Scout Sunday.    
- 2 May Windsor Parade for Windsor Day. There will be a Scout Skill area on the green. (Janet will see if their float can also be used in the Rose Parade.)
- 16 May Rose Parade. Need a good showing of Scouts and Cub Scouts. Need volunteers for booth.
- 7 March Merit Badge Midway at the Fundamonium in Rohnert Park from 8-6.
- August - Wings over Wine Country. Need to get on Facebook and POMO Post Calendars.
- August 7-9 Schoen Farms - Merit Badges in Agriculture and Animal Husbandry.  TBA
- Atmospheric and Oceanic Merit Badges at Christi Field in the Bay Area.
 
Advancement
    CBS - Janet Picket - no report
    BS - Jeff Neuman - no report
    Eagles - Dave Pankratz - Extensions have been given, 6 Projects pending approval.   24 Scouts Eagled last year, down 34 from last year.  Life to Eagle Presentations available.  YL requested one at their RT.

Camping/Outdoor Activities   
17-19 July Family Camp which includes Webelos (in place of Webelos Woods)   
19-25  Resident Camp   Need numbers of Adults and Scouts attending. We are looking for adults to add to the experience for the Scouts.
- Camping related items presently in the Scout Office such as regularly used items for Camp Noyo are going to be stored at Doyle Park.
- This years Camp O Ree theme will be Building with LEGOS and Minecraft. Disability Awareness
- We have Volunteers ready to give Presentations to Units available.

Scouting 4 Food - Jackie Reese -- 14 March. Jackie and her contact at the Food Bank are looking to hold the Scouting 4 Food in conjunction to the Food Banks Super Saturday. There is concern it will dilute the impact of Scouting 4 Food.

Popcorn - Connie Duncan  Top Seller Party had a good turnout.

Pinewood Derby - Curly will do this year but would like someone to shadow him this year to take over next year. Sign up needs to be more formal for registration and payment.

Veteran’s Pin - forms can be obtained at Scout Office from Tracy. The pins are for 5 year  increments.
